Félicitations

My favorite french couple got married on May 11th, 2013, and since I was unfortunately unable to attend (due to $$) I decided to make them a personalized card.

In order to understand the concept of this card you must first know that this particular french couple is obsessed with the United States (Aux Etats-Unis, en francais). Valerie is the mother of our second french exchange student, Alison, with whom I stayed on my trip to France when I was 19 and then again briefly when I was 21 on my way home from study abroad. Bruno, Valerie’s then boyfriend, also lived with them and he was full of life and energy making the two of them wonderful hosts.

Their apartment in Paris had one wall which was covered in dark wood slates with old American license plates adorning it.

I was pleased to see from the pictures of their wedding day that they celebrated in the typical “American” fashion as well.

To create the card I drew a version of a license plate with their names on it and filled it in with watercolor. I then wrote a note on velum and stitched it over the top of the painting.
